About This Tour

A Wild Morning & A Vineyard Lunch

Spend a relaxed half day getting close to some of South Africa’s most charismatic wildlife, all within easy reach of Plettenberg Bay. You’ll meet rare indigenous cats, wander among free-roaming primates or fluttering birdlife, and round things off with a leisurely Mediterranean-style lunch at one of the area’s loveliest wine estates. It’s a gentle, hands-off introduction to local wildlife, ideal for families, couples or solo travellers who’d rather watch animals than tick boxes.

Your Day, Stop by Stop

The Journey:

Every stop is its own chapter in this tour. Your private guide sets the pace — linger where you wish, explore what interests you most.

1

Morning

A Local's Welcome to Plettenberg Bay

Your guide collects you from your hotel or guest house with a morning departure, and the tour eases in with a quick scenic loop around Plett. You’ll stop at a couple of our favourite viewpoints, hear the story behind the town’s unusual name, and settle into the day before the animals take centre stage. Think of it as the appetiser to a much bigger main course.

2

Late morning

Up Close with the Furry Five at Tenikwa

Next, we head to the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, home to South Africa’s lesser-known indigenous cats. You’ll come face to face with the Furry Five: the tiny black-footed cat (one of the world’s deadliest hunters, pound for pound), the African wild cat, the long-legged caracal, the spotted serval, and the unmistakable cheetah. The cats live in spacious, semi-natural enclosures, and the guided walk offers a quiet, respectful look at species most South Africans have never seen in the flesh.

3

Early Afternoon

Monkeyland or Birds of Eden, Your Pick

From here, you choose your second wildlife stop. Monkeyland is the world’s first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary, where lemurs, capuchins, gibbons and more move freely through the forest canopy above you. Prefer feathers to fur? Birds of Eden is the world’s largest free-flight aviary, a vast meshed dome covering nearly two hectares of forest, with hundreds of birds darting overhead as you stroll the elevated boardwalks. Both are easy, well-paced walks, so the decision usually comes down to whether you’d rather look up at primates or up at parrots.

4

Early Afternoon

Lunch Under the Vines at Bramon

The tour winds down at Bramon Wine Estate, a working vineyard tucked into The Crags. Lunch is a generous Mediterranean-style spread of mezze platters, cheeses, pâtés, tapas and warm homemade bread, paired with a glass of Bramon’s own wine. You’ll eat outdoors among the vines, with plenty of time to chat through the morning’s highlights before we drop you back at your accommodation by late afternoon.

Frequently Asked

It’s a half-day tour, so plan for the morning and early afternoon. We collect you after breakfast, work through the three stops at a comfortable pace, and have you back at your accommodation in time for a relaxed evening.

The tour rate covers all entrance fees and a glass of wine with lunch, but the meal itself is for your own account. Bramon’s mezze and tapas menu is well priced for the quality, and the setting alone is worth the visit.

The half-day tour includes one of the two, so you’ll pick a favourite on the day. If you’d like to visit both, mention it when you enquire and we can look at upgrading you to the full-day Animal Adventure Tour or adding the second venue on. Many guests simply come back the next day for the other.

Yes, very much so. All three venues are flat, easy walking with shaded paths and seating along the way. Children love the variety of animals, and the pace is gentle enough for grandparents to enjoy without feeling rushed. There are no strenuous hikes or long stretches in the vehicle.

We collect you from your hotel or guest house anywhere in and around the Garden Route, and yes, it’s fully private. Whether you’re a solo traveller or a group of thirteen, you’ll have the vehicle and the guide to yourselves. No strangers, no compromise on the day, just your group and the animals.
