About This Tour

Where the Garden Route Meets the Wild Flowers

Each spring, the semi-arid plains of Namaqualand and the West Coast erupt into a dazzling carpet of colour — one of the world’s great floral displays. Our guided tour starts on the Garden Route and follows the wildflower trail north, threading exquisite coastal scenery and the rugged Cederberg with the kind of stops only a local guide would know about.

The main aim is simple: experience a dazzling array of wildflowers across wild valleys, working farmlands, the Cederberg, Clanwilliam and the breath-taking Swartland — at your own private pace, with a guide who knows when and where the season is at its best.

Practical Information

Frequently Asked

Wildflower season in Namaqualand and the West Coast runs roughly mid-August to mid-September, which is why we run this tour as a fixed annual departure. Confirm the year’s exact dates when you enquire.

Wildflower displays depend entirely on the previous winter’s rainfall, so no two seasons look the same. Your guide knows the region intimately and adjusts the daily route to follow the best displays — that local knowledge is the difference between a good trip and a magical one.

The tour is gentle. Most days involve scenic drives with regular stops, short walks at botanical gardens and reserves, and the occasional uneven path. If you can walk comfortably for 20–30 minutes at a time, you’ll be fine.

Pack warm layers and a rain coat — spring days in Namaqualand swing between hot sun and cold winds, sometimes in the same afternoon. Bring comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a camera, and cash — many of the small farm stalls along the route don’t accept cards.

A mix of three- and four-star country guesthouses and resorts: Piekenierskloof Resort in Citrusdal, Letsatsi Lodge in Vanrhynsdorp and Yellow Aloe Guesthouse in Clanwilliam. Dinner is included most nights. Specific establishments may change subject to availability, but the standard stays consistent.
